Wondering what to do with old books that are collectibles? Do you need to discard old books but don't want to send them to the wastebasket? Read on as we offered some tips on how to properly dispose of old books. By now, you may have noticed the recycling symbol displayed on most book covers and on all library publications referring to old books that are considered curbside waste. There are also many organizations that help you get rid of old books that no longer serve any useful purpose.

Of course, we always tell our children not to throw away books that are old and brittle. In fact, we tell them about the cost of taking care of antique books and the possible bad effects that they could suffer if thrown away. However, there are still many ways in which these old books can be reused. Old books make for great educational materials. You can give old books to students as study books, or you can start a scrapbook by preserving them.

If you already have old books that you no longer need, why not donate them? Many libraries accept donations of certain types of publications such as textbooks, journals, and reference books. However, if your local library does not accept donations of these publications, donating them online is a great way to go. Just because the information in a book is out of date, does not mean that you need to toss it out. Just think about how much money a used book sales agent would earn from a book that was no longer needed, so consider donating it to a worthy cause.

Another idea of what to do with old books is to donate them directly to your local library. Many libraries accept donated books on an individual basis. In most cases you will simply have to fill out an online form and arrange for the books to be transported to your local library. Many libraries also take gently used books for a small fee.

If you don't have access to books that are in good condition but would still like to help out your local area library, donating your old, broken, or unused books to your local fire station or school carnival is a great place to start. Most fire departments will process these types of donations without charging you any fees. In some locations schools will even collect and recycle these types of books. Again, you will need to check with your local fire station or school before you decide to donate books. The fire department or school may charge a fee in order to process this type of book donation.

If you feel that the thought of donating your books to someone else is not very fulfilling, consider recycling your own books instead. This is also a great way to help out your local area library and reduce the load on its recycling center. You can contact all of the book stores in your area and find out what they will accept as a donation. In many cases you can receive all of the materials you need to replace your books plus a little extra, such as staples or ribbon. Your local library may be able to offer you a bulk order, so that you get twice the amount of your book donations.

In addition to what to do with books you also have an option when it comes to donating your textbooks. If you have many of the used textbooks you will need to replace them rather than just throwing them away, you can donate your used textbooks by contacting your college's financial aid department. They will take care of actually taking care of your donation in terms of sending it off to the appropriate recycling company. You should be able to donate your used textbooks up to five years old. However, your financial aid officer will be able to give you an idea as to what the acceptable range is for your age group.

So, if you would like to know what to do with old books, whether you are looking for ways to recycle them or find out what your local library offers in terms of donating them, there are options available to you. All it takes is a bit of research. Know what you need to do with your books before you start the process so you will know what to do with them. Know what is acceptable so you won't waste time with different options that may not work for your situation.
